an aggregate may not appear in the set list of an update statement
Ok ... but how are you supposed to compute an aggregate of table1 rows with
a column containing various values for each row representing the distinct
set of those values in table2 ?

- Your question is a bit vague.
Please post your update statement, a SQL script to create the necessary
tables, expected results, etc., and we may be able to help you.
